Its name means literally the "White Coast" and it and brief and quite mild winters. The Costa Blanca, which literally the 'White Coast', is a stretch of Spanish coastline that runs from Denia in the north to Cartagena in the south, which is a distance of about 250 kilometres. The climate of the Costa Blanca is is home to a typical Mediterranean climate with long and hot summers, particularly from June to September when there is also little chance of rain. You can expect around 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and an average afternoon temperature in excess of 20°C for most of the year. This makes the Costa Blanca weather some of the best to be found in Europe. However you will find that Winters are cooler and cloudier, this is the same time of year when the region receives most of its annual rainfall

So what is the reason behind this fantastic climate? The answer to that is the microclimate in the region.

But what is a microclimate?

A microclimate is the climate of a specific small area or region which differs from the areas around it. why does the Costa Blanca have one? The reason why the Costa Blanca has this micro climate happening is that it has the Mediterranean Sea to the east and a mountainous area to the west. The mountains act as a buffer against conditions coming in from both the sea and inland, keeping the good weather in and any bad weather out.
