Albir Lighthouse - Part 1 - The Local Area

One of the most spectacular and simple walks/ hikes that can be done in the Province of Alicante is the Sea and mountainous quiet walk to the Albir Lighthouse. Here you go along the impressive cliffs of the Serra Gelada Natural Park. La Serra Gelada was declared a Terrestrial Maritime Natural Park in 2005, covering an area of ​​5,564 hectares, the vast majority corresponding to the marine environment.



Formed by an impressive relief in the erosion of the mountain by the oscan hitting the coastline, that rises imposingly between the towns of Benidorm, l'Alfàs del Pi and Altea, the riseon its coastline in the sierra gives us , spectacular cliffs of more than 400 m, and we can find pockets of vegetation and species priceless marinas.

The trip is apoximatly 5 km round that take no more than 1.30-1.45 hours to complete with a slight drop of 112 meters. It runs along a paved and perfectly signposted path with no chance of getting lost.


Therefore this route to the Albir Lighthouse is suitable for everyone. It can be done both on foot and by bicycle. (at the moment however biycles are not permitted due to covid) families or people with reduced mobility, since it can be done with both pushchairs and wheelchairs.

In the hot months you have to bring your own water bottles and or food as there is no place to purchase in the car park or on route,also since there is no natural source and the path has few shadows. There is a freee standing fountain at the beginnning



During the short ascent, which is done in just over 45 minutes to an hour, various panels inform us both of the points of interest and important aspects of the mountains such as its origin, history, uses, vegetation, geology ... these are written in both Spanish and English so not only do you get a beautiful sceanic walk you can learn all about the area as well
